Using a Wetting Agent

The reason we use a Wetter is because the soil/sand in Western Australia is very water repellent and the way we can combat this is by digging in lots of organic matter &/or apply a Wetting agent.

If you don't do this then your soil/sand underneath the top layer will stay dry and your plant/tree/lawn will not receive the benefits of the watering/fertilisers that you have spent your hard earned cash on,so it is very important.

I like to use a liquid Wetter because i find the granules don't work as well in our soils. Bentonite clay is a good addition in sandy soils and also acts as a wetting agent to add soil structure.

Watheroo Bentonite clay is sold here as well.

Here is a West Aussie product ( sold at Eureka )that works well for our soils here in Perth

I find the best way to apply a Wetting agent is first water the ground were you are putting it on.

Then mix up the Wetter , pour it over (a watering can is best) and then a nice deep watering after, this will insure the water can get down to the roots.

If you have very poor soil/sand then give it another dose, now when you add your fertilisers and water you know it's getting it to the roots for the plant to flourish.

This should be reapplied 2 or 3 times a year.
